6 Study Tips for Online Learners
Online classes bring diverse types of challenges. MS State Online has six tips that can help you stay on top of your studies.
- Familiarize yourself with expectations
If you understand the expectations your professor has of you, you will have a better understanding of how you will need to tackle studying for the class. Be sure to read your syllabus thoroughly. Also, ask plenty of questions through email, during class, or on WebEx during your professor’s office hours. Your professors want to help you!
- Treat it like a face-to-face class
Just because your class is not face-to-face does not mean you should treat it any differently. Take it seriously - just as you would an in-person class. Always prepare for class in advance, ask questions, stay on top of your assignments, and put forth your best efforts.
- Create a dedicated study space
A dedicated study space can help you focus on your classes when you sit down to do your homework, study, complete an assignment, or take a quiz or test. This can help put you in the right mindset. The study space should be comfortable, free of distractions, and equip ped with any materials you might need.
- Carefully manage your time
Pace yourself! Make a conscious effort to manage your time carefully and wisely. Creating a study plan that is realistic and attainable can help ensure that you cover all the material in a timely manner. It is okay to take breaks! A minute away from studying or even just looking at the computer screen can be beneficial.
- Seek virtual interaction with peers and professors
Plan time to hop on a WebEx with your professors or your peers. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your professor if you need help outside of class time. Network with your peers as well. Relationships with classmates can help you build a community of people who understand the course material, your struggles, and your successes!
- Utilize online resources
