Connecting with Online Students
November 8, 2024, 11 AM – 1 PM
Coskrey Auditorium, Memorial Hall
Whether we teach online, face-to-face, hybrid, or some yet-to-be-invented combination, what matters is making real connections with our students. And there is no format where this is more needed—or more challenging—than online classes. In this interactive presentation, Dr. Rebecca A. Glazier shares qualitative and quantitative research on the impact connection can have for students, strategies for building connected classrooms, and evidence of just how easy it can be to make meaningful connections. Participants will leave with new ideas and strategies for connecting in their classrooms and a new understanding of the difference it can make.
About the speaker: Rebecca A. Glazier is a professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, coordinating the Middle Eastern Studies Program. Her research spans religion and politics, U.S. foreign policy, political communication, and teaching methods. She emphasizes engagement both in the classroom and the community. Glazier is passionate about being an effective teacher, focusing on how professors can better engage students to enhance their success. Her work also highlights the importance of building rapport with online students to improve retention and success.
