Mississippi State University offers a 100% online Bachelor of University Studies (BUS) program, designed specifically for adult learners through the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS). This flexible, 120-credit-hour degree program provides a clear pathway for eligible students to complete their undergraduate education and achieve their career goals.

Degree Requirements

The following requirements must be met to earn a Bachelor of University Studies degree:
Must pass a minimum of 120 applicable hours.

60 hours must be earned at an accredited four-year university.
30 hours of upper-level (3000/4000) credits must be earned at MSU.
The final 30 hours must be earned at MSU.
Up to 60 hours transferred from an accredited community college may apply toward the degree.

Full Curriculum

Transfer Credit

May apply up to 60 hours from an accredited community college.
May apply up to 90 hours from an accredited four-year university.
Upon admission to the university, the Registrar's Office will evaluate transfer credit to determine how it transfers to Mississippi State University.

Applications are accepted year-round. You can apply at any time and begin your studies in the Fall, Spring, or Summer semester.

Additional Required Application Step

Complete Identity Verification: Applicants must complete identity verification through Stripe Identity as part of the required application process. This step helps confirm the applicant’s identity before the application can be completed.

Academic Advising

After gaining admission to the university, you must contact your advisor to determine the courses that are most appropriate for you to take. Approximately two months prior to the upcoming semester, your advisor will send an email to your MSU email account, making course recommendations based on your program of study.

Program Reminders

If you want to deviate from the program of study recommended for you, check with your advisor
If you take courses not on your recommended program of study, there is a risk that the classes will not count toward your University Studies degree.

All programs of study are subject to review by the Registrar's Office for graduation, even from a signed program of study. Courses that do not equal MSU courses exactly may or may not apply to your program as core courses. You can see these course translations through the DegreeWorks myState. To access the report, log into your myState account and click on the "hamburger" icon in the top left corner in order to access the Banner tab; click or hover over the myBanner for Students tab in order to view the Academic Records column where you can click on the DegreeWorks link.
